This is not a Dance...

Inspired by Trisha Brown

This is not a dance… It is a drawing about lines. Lines that take upon the physical form. Lines that test the natural law of physics. Lines that walk against gravity. It is a drawing of movement from point A to Point B that deconstructs the natural ruling of things humanity knows. A drawing that illustrates science with minimalism. A drawing of a line that describes the natural and unnatural flow of forces. Gravity becomes subjective for each line; Gravity is no longer absolute and definitive to humans.

This is not a dance… It is a fashion statement. Harnesses are the new “in” thing, the latest trend. Harnesses that define the figure and form naturally, as well as counteract gravity--an apparel that provides convenience in metropolitan areas, expanding the sidewalks and walking areas in the urban cities. No longer bound and chained to one play or space, but to multiple planes and spectrums... The sky is the limit.

This is not a dance… It is a struggle between humanity and science. Constrained by gears tightly around their waists, freedom is therefore limited. Bound to just cautiously walk slowly across different spectrums, man cannot freely leap, run, jump, sprint, etc. Like a caged bird, people are caged within the natural forces on Earth, adhering to all mathematic laws. It is humankind’s struggle to revolt and rebel against these forces and laws to open up new and revolutionary opportunities, to be able to master and control gravity, no longer to be enslaved by it.

This is not a dance… It is an erratic moment of the natural world. The world is slowly losing its grip on mankind. Mankind has been growing exponentially powerful. Gravity has cracked and given in to the attempts of man. Soon, gravity will cave in and become enslaved by man. Man is no longer a tool governed and enslaved by gravity to make the world go round. It is an erratic moment that opened up doors for man to dream and belief.

This is not a dance… It is a belief, the belief to master and dominate gravity and other natural forces along with it. Dating back from Jesus’ law-defying walk on the water moment, amazement and wonder strikes the human heart. What started as a miracle grew into an obsession and aspiration in many different forms. In man’s desperate attempts to defy gravity, a new moment has been made through the walking on walls. As man has belief in defying gravity through the inventions of planes and flying machines, mankind has found a new belief in walking on walls.

This is not a dance…
